salt
Random bytes stored with each password hash so two equal passwords never hash the same.
A salt is a per-password random value fed into the key-derivation function and stored beside the result, which defeats precomputed tables and hides which users share a password.
Examples
Two growers who both choose the same password get different stored hashes, because each scrypt hash mixes in its own random salt stored beside it.
