settings migration

A numbered step that converts stored settings to the next version's format.

A settings migration is an ordered, idempotent transformation of persisted configuration from one schema version to the next, run at boot until the stored version matches the firmware's.

Examples

  • Firmware 1.5.0 with schema 3 boots on a device at schema 1 and runs 1→2 then 2→3, writing the new schema value only after each step's data.

  • migrate2to3() writes report_ms = 60,000 from report_s = 60, so re-running it after a power cut gives the same value.
