compile-time error

A mistake the compiler finds before the program can run.

A compile-time error is a violation of the language's rules (syntax or types) reported by javac; no class file is produced until it is fixed.

Examples

  • int count = "three"; fails with incompatible types: String cannot be converted to int, so no program is built.
