run-time error

A problem that stops a program while it is running.

A run-time error occurs during execution; in Java it surfaces as an exception, which, if not handled, ends the program and prints a stack trace.

Examples

  • int[] a = new int[3]; a[3] = 1; compiles, then stops with ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException.
