biconditional

An "if and only if" claim: both parts have the same truth value.

A biconditional is a sentence of the form "P if and only if Q." It is true when P and Q are both true or both false, and false when they differ. It says the same as "if P then Q, and if Q then P."

Examples

  • "The alarm sounds if and only if the door opens."
