elimination rule
A rule for using a sentence whose main connective is a given connective.
An elimination rule tells you what you may conclude from a sentence whose main connective is a particular connective. For example, ∧E takes either conjunct out of a conjunction.
Examples
∧E, ∨E, →E, ↔E, and ¬E are the elimination rules.
