hyperbolic equilibrium

An equilibrium whose Jacobian has no eigenvalue with zero real part.

An equilibrium \mathbf{x}^* of \mathbf{x}'=F(\mathbf{x}) is hyperbolic if every eigenvalue of J=DF(\mathbf{x}^*) has nonzero real part -- exactly the hypothesis the Hartman-Grobman theorem requires to guarantee the linearization's phase portrait matches the true nonlinear one nearby.
