certificate authority
The party whose signature on a certificate others agree to trust.
A certificate authority issues and signs certificates; a client trusts a server's certificate when it chains to a CA certificate the client already holds.
Examples
Each greenhouse node is flashed with the CA's own certificate,
ca.pem, and trusts a broker only if that CA signed the broker's certificate.
