event-driven architecture
Designing a system so parts react to events as they happen instead of asking each other for updates.
In an event-driven architecture components publish events and others subscribe to them, so producers need not know which consumers exist.
Examples
Adding a pager service to the greenhouse is just one more subscription to
alerts/#; no sensor firmware changes, because the sensors never knew who was listening.
