firmware image

The compiled program as one binary file that gets written to flash.

A firmware image is the linked application binary, with its header and segments, that is written to an app partition and loaded by the bootloader.

Examples

  • The lab sketch's firmware image for the ESP32-C6 is one binary file of 1,154,020 bytes that the device downloads and writes to its flash.

  • An image built for the ESP32-C6 must never be installed on an ESP32-S3, so the manifest names the chip it was built for.
