formatter

A tool that rewrites code into one fixed layout without changing its meaning.

A formatter (clang-format, rustfmt, Ruff, Prettier) rewrites source layout to a configured style; CI runs it in check mode so unformatted files fail the build.

Examples

  • The greenhouse uses clang-format for the C++ firmware, cargo fmt for Rust, ruff format for the Python back end and Prettier for the dashboard.

  • Reformatting the dashboard after a Prettier upgrade goes in its own commit, so the real change stays readable.
