hex dump

Raw bytes printed as two-digit hexadecimal numbers, usually 16 to a line with the offset on the left.

A hex dump lists a buffer's bytes as hexadecimal pairs, typically 16 per row prefixed by the offset of the row's first byte, so any byte can be found by position.

Examples

  • The 18-byte JSON {"t":21.5,"rh":64} dumps as 7b 22 74 22 3a 32 31 2e ..., with the offset 00000000 on the left and the text on the right.

  • In the dump, the byte at offset 0x10 is 34, the digit 4, on the second line because the first line holds 16 bytes.
