Matter

A smart-home standard so devices from different brands work with each other and with every big home app.

Matter is an application-layer standard (from the Connectivity Standards Alliance) defining device types, commissioning and security over IP networks -- Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Thread.

Examples

  • A Matter light on Wi-Fi and one on Thread are controlled the same way; Matter is not a radio.

  • Matter's Temperature Measurement cluster reports MeasuredValue in hundredths of a degree, so 2153 means 21.53 C.
