Protocol Buffers
A compact binary format whose messages are described by a schema both sides share.
Protocol Buffers encode a message as numbered, typed fields defined in a .proto schema; unknown fields are skipped, which lets old and new versions read each other's messages.
Examples
The greenhouse climate reading shrinks to 21 bytes in Protocol Buffers because it sends only field numbers like "field 3: 21.5", which mean nothing without the shared schema.
