update manifest

A signed description of a release: version, chip, size, hash and where to get it.

An update manifest is a signed metadata document describing a release -- version, target chip and hardware revision, image size, SHA-256 and URL -- which the device checks before downloading or installing.

Examples

  • The lab's manifest for 1.5.0 names chip esp32s3, min_hw_rev 1, the image size, its SHA-256 and the download url, with a signature over its exact bytes.

  • The device checks the manifest's signature before parsing it, then the chip, hardware revision, size and version, and only then downloads.
