valuation

An assignment of true or false to every sentence letter.

A valuation assigns exactly one truth value, true or false, to each sentence letter in play. Each row of a truth table is one valuation, and a valuation fixes the truth value of every sentence built from those letters.

Examples

  • With letters P and Q there are four valuations: TT, TF, FT, FF.
