node

An equilibrium where every nearby trajectory approaches (or leaves) along one of two straight eigen-directions.

A node is an equilibrium of \mathbf{x}'=A\mathbf{x} with real eigenvalues of the same sign -- every trajectory (except along one special eigen-direction) approaches or leaves tangent to the eigenvector of the eigenvalue smaller in magnitude, stable if both eigenvalues are negative, unstable if both are positive.
