edition migration

Moving a crate to a newer edition, mostly automatically.

cargo fix --edition rewrites code that would change meaning under the next edition; then edition is bumped in Cargo.toml and remaining warnings are fixed by hand.

Examples

  • Run cargo fix --edition while still on edition 2021, then change edition = "2024" in Cargo.toml and build and test.
