overflow

When a calculation's result is too big for its type.

Integer overflow is a result outside a type's range: it panics in debug builds and wraps in release builds.

Examples

  • let mut level: u8 = 250; level += 10; panics with attempt to add with overflow in a debug build.

  • 250u8.wrapping_add(10) asks for wrapping on purpose and returns 4.
