characteristic

One BLE data item, like the temperature, that can be read, written or subscribed to.

A characteristic is a typed value inside a service with properties (read, write, write without response, notify, indicate) and optional descriptors.

Examples

  • The Temperature characteristic, 0x2A6E, holds a signed 16-bit value in hundredths of a degree, so 2153 means 21.53 C.

  • Writing 01 to the custom fan characteristic turns the fan on.
