decommissioning
Retiring a device for good -- revoking its credentials and removing its data from active use.
Decommissioning ends a device's lifecycle by revoking its credentials, removing or archiving its registry entry and wiping or reclaiming the hardware.
Examples
Retiring a greenhouse node means revoking its credential in the registry and wiping the hardware; a factory reset alone leaves a copied credential still valid.
