factory reset

Wiping a device's saved settings, such as Wi-Fi credentials, so it starts like new.

A factory reset erases provisioned settings and secrets from non-volatile storage (for example the NVS namespace holding Wi-Fi credentials) and returns the device to its unprovisioned state, usually from a long button press.

Examples

Holding a button for several seconds erases the greenhouse node's saved Wi-Fi credentials, so it starts its setup portal again.
Before handing a provisioned board to someone else, a factory reset wipes its stored SSID and passphrase.
