SoftAP

Wi-Fi mode where the device makes its own small network that a phone can join.

In SoftAP mode the ESP32 acts as an access point, typically briefly, so a phone or laptop can connect to it directly -- the basis of many provisioning portals.

Examples

  • WiFi.softAP(name, password) makes the board its own access point at 192.168.4.1, which a phone joins to fill in a setup form.

  • A SoftAP setup portal works with any phone or laptop and needs no app installed.
