detection delay
How long it takes a device to notice that its connection is gone.
The detection delay is the time between a link actually failing and the device's software learning of it, from a failed send, a missed keepalive reply or a disconnect event; messages sent in that window are lost unless they are resent.
Examples
The link fails at 30 s but a heartbeat timeout notices at 45 s, so readings at 30, 35 and 40 s go into a dead connection.
After the router reboots at 10:00:00, the Wi-Fi driver reports the loss at 10:00:02, a 2 s delay.
