document store

A database that stores each record as a JSON-like document instead of rows in fixed columns.

A document store keeps self-describing documents, queried by their fields, without a fixed table schema.

Examples

  • A document store could keep each greenhouse reading as its own JSON document such as {"temp_c": 21.5, "rh_pct": 48.2}, with no fixed list of columns.
