Dirichlet condition

A boundary condition that prescribes the value of $u$ itself on the boundary.

A Dirichlet condition prescribes $u$ 's own value on the boundary, e.g. $u(0,t)=u(L,t)=0$ for a rod held at zero temperature at both ends.
